Proven natural remedies for dry hair

Dull, brittle and straw-like hair is often a problem, especially for women with longer hair, which can be easily remedied with home remedies. The dryness mostly arises from incorrect treatment and environmental influences. Stress, such as perm, dyeing, hot blow drying, straightening and washing too often can lead to unruly, brittle hair. Various care products promise success. But here it is essential to pay attention to the ingredients, as they can even aggravate the problem. Home remedies for dry hair, on the other hand, usually contain only natural components and help to get beautiful, shiny hair again in the long term.

Effective tips against dry hair

Brittle, lackluster hair should not be washed too often. Instead, the less common, the better. When buying a shampoo, make sure that it contains neither silicone nor aggressive surfactants. Silicones cover your hair like a coat. This makes them feel smooth and gives them a nice shine. But with time, washing has to be done more and more frequently in order to achieve the desired goal. The "coat" prevents moisture and important oils from penetrating, which makes the hair drier and drier. In addition, they are weighed down by the silicones.

With a so-called “clarifying shampoo”, the hair can be freed from chemical residues. Switching to a silicone-free shampoo and using the home remedies presented below is a step in the right direction.

Shampoos contain surfactants. These are substances that loosen dirt and act as foaming agents. Surfactants are necessary, but there are quite a few differences. Not everyone reacts to these substances, but they can trigger allergies or lead to massive drying of the hair.

The scalp should always be massaged when washing, as this stimulates fat production. Avoid hot water and excessive blow-drying. The use of flat irons and / or curling irons should also be carefully considered. After washing, the hair can be rinsed off a little with cold water. This also helps against dry, brittle hair.

It is advisable to brush your hair in the morning and evening for at least three minutes to stimulate the blood circulation and sebum production in the scalp. It should not only be combed from top to bottom, but also the other way round, ie “against the grain”.

Natural shampoo: shampoo

Hair washing soap is a good alternative to shampoo because it mostly contains only natural substances. Goat milk-based soap is recommended for dry hair. Various oils, such as coconut oil or sesame oil, are often added to support their effectiveness, which has a positive effect on the hair structure.

Oil cures: high effectiveness without chemicals

Oil cures are a proven home remedy to moisturize dry, brittle hair. Important: In all applications, a mild shampoo is first massaged into the hair after the exposure time and only then washed out with sufficient water. This way the oil dissolves better. The cures are usually applied once a week. This can also occur more frequently in the event of massive drought.

Treatment with pure olive oil

Oil treatments conjure up moisture in the hair in a simple way. A well-known ingredient for this is olive oil. After washing with a gentle shampoo, the hair is dried with a towel without rubbing and then carefully combed. The warmed olive oil is worked in by hand from the roots to the tips. If the scalp is dry, the oil can also be massaged into the scalp. Then the hair is packed in a warm towel. After one to three hours, the cure is washed out with a little shampoo.

Hair pack with olive oil and egg

Warm olive oil is mixed with an egg yolk and a teaspoon of honey. The whole thing is worked into the hair after washing. This mixture should be able to soak in for at least half an hour before being washed out.

Moisture from coconut oil

For this proven home remedy for straw hair, three tablespoons of coconut oil, an egg yolk and a teaspoon of lemon juice are mixed together. The paste is applied to washed, towel-dried hair and remains there for at least one hour. If necessary, the scalp can also be treated.

Pack of essential oils

A fragrant and effective application for brittle hair is a pack in which essential oils are used.

Instructions for a sesame lavender pack:
  1. Mix one teaspoon of sesame, olive and para nut oil together
  2. Add half a teaspoon of honey and two drops of geranium essential oil and lavender oil
  3. Before use, the mixture is warmed slightly in a water bath
  4. Now bring the pack into damp hair from the roots to the tips
  5. Then immerse a towel in warm water and wring it out well
  6. Wrap it around your head as a turban so that the treatment can work properly
  7. After about fifteen minutes, the whole thing is washed out with shampoo

Argan oil for dry hair

Argan oil is a very special oil that is obtained from the seeds of the argan tree and is also known as the "Gold of Morocco". The oil has a circulation-promoting and moisturizing property, which is why it is often used for dry hair. The oil can be massaged into the tips of the hair and scalp before washing, possibly even overnight. It is also possible to add a few drops of it to the shampoo or put it into dry hair after washing.

Mask with egg yolk

For this effective mask, one tablespoon of olive, castor and wheat germ oil is required, which is mixed with an egg yolk and then applied to damp hair. The exposure time is approximately twenty minutes.

Quick help overnight: oil massage

A well-tried method for unruly hair is a massage of the scalp with valuable oils. This works best if it is used in the form of a cure three days in a row, every two weeks.

Instructions for the oil massage:
  • Mix 50 grams of olive, almond and castor oil with five grams of rosemary oil
  • Massage the mixture carefully into the scalp in the evening
  • Wrap a towel over it so the bedding doesn't get dirty
  • Let the oil soak in overnight
  • The next morning, the hair is washed thoroughly until all oil residues are removed

Jojoba: moisture for every day

A light oil that is suitable for every day is jojoba oil. The risk of greasy hair is very low. Rub a splash of it into the palms of your hands and spread it over your hair. Above all, the tips should be well taken care of, since these are mostly affected the most. The oil provides an extra portion of moisture and, if used regularly, can quickly make the hair shiny and beautiful again.

Hair treatment with baby bran bath

An application with bran bath powder is a somewhat unusual, but very effective recipe. For this, a tablespoon of the powder is mixed with a tablespoon of cream. Add a teaspoon of honey, a little coconut oil, an egg yolk and a dash of lemon juice. This treatment is distributed in the hair, a hood is put on or a warmed up towel is wrapped around. The mixture can be rinsed out after about half an hour.

Shampoo with mayonnaise

A mayonnaise shampoo applied regularly (once a week) repairs dry tips and hair and then puts a protective film over them.

  • To make the mayonnaise, drop two tablespoons of olive oil into an egg yolk
  • Put the mass into dry hair and massage it carefully
  • Then put a towel over it to warm it
  • After 20 to 30 minutes of exposure, the hair is rinsed out thoroughly

Dryness also comes from within

Often the dryness also comes from the inside, which means that not only the hair is dry, but possibly also the skin and mucous membranes. If this is the case, it is essential to ensure that the fluid requirement is met. Depending on age and physical exertion, this is at least 30 milliliters of still water per kilogram of body weight a day. It is equally important to pay attention to high-quality virgin oil (e.g. olive oil) when eating and to use this regularly in the kitchen. Schüssler salts that do a good job in dry conditions are salts number eight, potassium chloratum. (sw, nr)
